Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Spanish are Here!!!!
Hi Folks,
The Spanish are here!!!
Had a great trip today, traveling south until we hit some 70 degree water and the ocean was full of spanish mackerel and bonito. We only kept 14 of the large spanish, averaging 2 pounds. The fish were caught on top, down deep and mid-depth. What a blast.
Here's my report: Week of April 23 thru April 30:
Inshore: Still having good catches of red and black drum. Best bait is shrimp, fished on a carolina rig. A few small flounder are around.
Nearshore: The bonito, finicky this year, are still plentiful one day and scarce the next. If you cannot get them jigging or casting spoons, try trolling small clarkspoons. Spanish mackerel are in the area, but a little south to be called plentiful off Wrightsville Beach...but that could change overnight. Usual bait, clarkspoons, (I use 00) fished at various depths.
Offshore: King mackerel are in the 20-30 mile zone and moving in fast as the water warms up. The warm southerly breezes this week and warmer temperatures may bring the fish in much closer over the next few days.
Gulfstream: Lots of wahoo, yellowfin tuna and big mahi mahi. Very good spring action in the stream.
Let's go Fishing
