Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore and Offshore Fishing is Great
Hi Folks,
Hoping everyone will have a happy and safe July 4th holiday.
Fishing is just pure outstanding right now. One day this past week we limited out on kings and then today we caught 5 nice reds, the biggest being 27.5 inches.
Heres my report: Week Ending July 3, 2003:
Inshore: Everybody is seeing red! Red drum that is. Live bait (menhaden), fresh chunk bait (menhaden or popeye mullet) fished on Carolina rigs near docks, piers and pilings is producing some hot red action. Flounder are in the inlets, the waterway and the river. Best bait is live menhaden or finger mullet. Some big fish have been caught.
Nearshore: The spanish mackerel had just begun to get predictable and then along came the remnants of "Bill". I haven't been out since, but expect the water has been stirred up a bit and may take a day or two for things to settle down. King mackerel, cobia and a few mahi have been caught from 4 to 8 miles out. Best baits have been # 0 and #1 clarkspoons fished at various depths.
Offshore: Mahi mahi and king mackerel in bigger sizes have been biting in the 20-30 mile areas. Best baits have been larger live menhaden fished naked and frozen ballyhoo fished with shirts.
Gulfstream: No report available.
If you're on the water this weekend, remember to be patient and courteous. There will be a lot of boats and personal watercraft on the water, so be careful.
