Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Week Ending July 30, 2003
Hi Folks,
The Rod-Man has fished offshore a ways mostly the past week, from 20-26 miles out. We had limit catches of king mackerel and some nice mahi, one at 32 pounds (see pic of the week:www.rodmancharters.com). Had one inshore trip, but my livewell pump decided to quit...right after I had floated the net with a load of menhaden. That kinda made the trip a disaster.
Here's my report: Week Ending July 30, 2003:
Inshore: Good report of sheepshead and black drum around the bridges caught on sand fleas and one armed bandits. Flounder, red drum are still around in the inlets waterway and creeks. Best bait is LIVE menhaden, fished on a carolina rig. A tout or two have been caught in the inlets on high tide.
Nearshore: Spanish fishing is spotty but better. Catches of 25 or so are becoming more common. Black sea bass are providing good action on the inshore artificial reefs; a great eating fish.
Offshore: Where the action is right now. 15 to 25 miles out, lots of kings and mahi with some sailfish adding to the action.
Gulfstream: No reports this week.
Finger mullet are starting to arrive in better and better numbers, which can only mean one thing...fall is not too far around the corner, when the temps cool and the fishing heats up.
Don't forget to see the pic of the week...a big mahi: www.rodmancharters.com
Let's Go Fishing!!!
