Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Week Ending August 21, 2003
Hi Folks,
The Rod-Man has been busy...catching some really nice fish. It's hot and the fishing action is hotter. Everything is biting, from flounder to redfish to spanish and king mackerel, and mahi. Don't miss this weeks' pic of the week...a beautiful 27 inch red we caught, photoed and released.
Here's my report: Week Ending August 21, 2003:
Inshore: Action is picking up fast. Yesterday we had a big red among others and flounder too. Best action has been near the bottom of the falling tide and the incoming tide up for about 3 hours. Best bait is still live menhaden fished on carolina rigs.
Nearshore: Spanish mackerel fishing is getting back to normal with some real good catches coming to the dock. Bluefish and spanish are running along the beach out to about 3 miles. Best bait is clarkspoons fished at various depths.
Offshore: King mackerel and mahi, along with an occasional sailfish have been providing great action from 18 to 30 miles out. Ballyhoo and live menhaden are best baits. African pompano are still being caught at Frying Pan Tower.
Gulfstream: Wahoo mahi and a few tuna are providing the action. Early morning seems to provide the best bite.
