Wrightsville Beach to Cape Fear River

Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Week Ending September 4, 2003

Hi Folks,

Since it is raining and the seas are a bit high, I thought it would be a good time to give you a report on what's going on with the fishing and the Rod-Man. With the recent heat and impending stormy weather, we only fished a couple of days this week. Nevertheless, through talking with others and my own experience, I can give you an accurate account of this week's fishing.

Here is my report for the week ending September 4, 2003:

Inshore: Red drum and flounder are around, but require some patience and searching. Look for this to improve dramatically this week as the weather settles and cooler temperatures prevail. Sheepshead, black drum and a few gray trout are showing up...a real good sign for things to come.

Nearshore: Spanish mackerel catches are good and the fish are nice. Best fishing is from 2 to 5 miles out, fishing on #1 planers and small clarkspoons with 35 feet of leader.

Offshore: King mackerel, mahi and sailfish are providing good action from 5 to 25 miles out. Best bait is live menhaden. Next best is ballyhoo trolled skirted or naked.

Gulfstream: Wahoo and blackfin tuna are providing most of the action in the stream. Some mahi and yellowfin are also biting.

Special Announcement:

I am proud to announce that I have been asked by Crocker's Marine to join the Crocker's Marine Fishing Team as their Pro-Guide for Parker Boats, and I have enthusiastically accepted.

Parker is the newest line in a long list of top quality boats to be carried by Crocker's Marine. Parker Marine Enterprises builds one of the most versatile boats on the market. It is known for its high quality, attention to detail, and just plain toughness. My Parker 23SE is hands down the best boat I have had the pleasure to own.

My involvement with Crocker's Marine and their line of Parker Boats will be on several fronts:

I will be a professional resource person for hands on experience and personal assistance in choosing a Parker Boat.

I will be involved in the annual Crocker's Marine Fishing School.

I will be available to provide assistance in teaching new Parker Boat owners how and where to maximize their fishing experience.

If you are interested in a quality boat and a quality boat dealer, contact the sales staff (Richard Pratt, Newland Crocker, or Jack Womble), at Crocker's Marine, 910-256-3661.

Let's Go Fishing!!!
