Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Report August 20, 2004
Hi Folks,
This weeks' report is a bit abbreviated simply because my boat is out of the water and I personally have not fished since "Charley" visited our area. I am taking this opportunity to get some cleanup and needed additions done to the Rod-Man. I will pass on information from others, which quite frankly is less than exciting.
Here's my report for August 20, 2004:
Inshore: The water is very dirty from all the rain. Flounder are biting near the inlets where the cleaner water is located. A few puppy drum are around the ICW docks.
Nearshore: Best bet right now is flounder around the nearshore artificial reefs. Rising tide is best. Some gray trout are being caught as well. Sporadic catches of spanish mackerel are being reported.
Offshore: Reports of mahi at the 23 mile rock and some king mackerel have come in, but the general comments are that the water is a bit stirred up still.
Gulfstream: Wahoo and blackfin tuna as well as mahi are biting.
The good news is the weather is very nice and things should get back to normal within another week...and that is just another week closer to good fall fishing.
