Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Period Ending October 12, 2004
Report Period Ending October 12, 2004:
Hi Folks,
For the most part fishing is very good. Getting the wind right and especially the tide is all important to catching the good fish. Our best flounder fishing is still in the ocean, just off the beach. The reds seem to be biting best now at dead low tide and then rising until about 3/4 high tide.
Inshore: Right now we are catching some nice reds on live menhaden, finger mullet and shrimp. A few nice flounder are in the inlets. Sheepshead in good size as well as black drum are biting well too.
Near Shore: The big story still is the presence of the flounder at the near shore reefs. They are feeding strong on live menhaden and finger mullet. Good numbers of gray trout are biting as well, both on live bait as well as jigs.
Offshore: King mackerel have been biting in good numbers from on the beach to 10 miles out. Live bait, dead bait, fast trolling with hardware, the fish have been hungry. False albacore and bonito are making some brief showings and should become more visible in the coming weeks.
Gulfstream: The big bite is wahoo. Blackfin tuna and mahi are biting as well.
Fall fishing is here and is getting better by the day. If you get a chance get on the water and catch a big one.
Registration for my inshore fishing school is going well. If you are interested I urge you not to wait until it is too late. It makes a great gift too.
