Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Period Ending October 19, 2004
Hi Folks,
Fall temperatures are cooling things off a bit and the fishing is heating up quite a bit. Flounder, red drum, trout, kings, sheepshead, blues in bunches, false albacore all are biting.
The most interesting trip of the week was a flounder trip where we caught 4 door mat flounder and then a 12 pound king on a #2 hook flounder rig...the details are too unbelievable so I'll just leave it at that.
Now here's my report:
Inshore: Good action. Flounder, reds, blacks, sheepshead, trout...all are biting. The trout bite is sporadic, but as soon as the water drops a few more degrees, look out.
Near Shore: Flounder again...the big kind on the near shore reefs with live bait. Gray trout too, live bait and jigging. Large schools of bluefish and some false albacore are around as well.
Offshore: Kings are biting from the beach out to 10 miles...you really don't have to go any further. Live bait, dead bait, metal; all are working. If it's kings you want, now is the time.
Gulfstream: Wahoo is the big attraction here. Tuna and mahi round out a trip to the stream.
This is the absolute best time of the year to go fishing. The next 6-8 weeks will be awesome. If you cannot go fishing, sign up for my fishing school; see details at http://www.rodmancharters.com/first_annual_rod.htm
