Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
September 8, 2005
Report: September 8, 2005
Hi Folks,
Well since just after the Labor Day Weekend the weather has been a bit unsettled. Persistent NE winds have kept most boats at port. Luckily the inshore fishing isn't doing bad at all. I had a dad and his two grown sons this past weekend and we had some great redfish action. With the cooling of the waters look for the fishing to get hotter.
Now here's my report:
Inshore: Reds are biting well as are the flounder. Live bait is pretty easy to find, either mullet or menhaden. Both baits fished on carolina rigs in the inlets, the ICW, and the creeks will produce fish.
Nearshore: The few boats that have ventured out have had great catches of large spanish and king mackerel are moving closer to shore...a sure sign of fall fishing.
Offshore: Prior to this week of windy weather the kings were from 10-30 miles out with mahi mixed in with them. When the ocean settles down look for the kings to be closer...in the 3 to 15 mile range.
Gulfstream: No reports this week.
The year's best fishing is ahead of us, so don't miss a chance to get on the water. I have lots of good dates in September, October, November and December still open.
Sponsor's Corner: Interest in the Rod-Man Fishing School has been steady and seats are filling up almost daily. Bug-Em Bait has king mackerel slow trolling rigs discounted 5 rigs for only $6...just in time for the fall king run. Okuma reels continue to impress me with their toughness and smooth operation. Berkley Fireline saved another nice red this weekend...30" wrapped a piling, but we were able to wait until he unwrapped himself and pull him to the boat.
