Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report October 13, 2005

Rod-Man Report October 13, 2005:

Hi Folks,

Fishing is taking off. As the water gets clearer after the rains we are finding fish hungry. I have been preaching all summer about Berkley's Gulp baits and I have to tell you a great story. Yesterday in blustery conditions we had tried finger mullet and shrimp will little success. So I took a Gulp swimming minnow (watermelon) and put it on a flounder rig, carolina rig style. We started drifting the inlet and bang! a 25 inch red inhaled the gulp and the young lady who caught it, caught the biggest fish of her life. Unfortunately I had for once forgotten my camera. She had hers' though and hopefully I will have a pic next week.

Now here's my report:

Inshore: Red drum ARE active and biting around the inlets. Expect action in the waterway and creeks to pick up after the rain water clears out. Flounder fishing has been a bit slow. Bluefish are starting to show in numbers and size. Black drum will be biting soon.

Nearshore: Bluefish are patrolling the beach and can be caught on bait or trolling with clarkspoons. Look for gray trout at the nearshore reefs.

Offshore: Some king mackerel action can be found at the 10 mile areas, but is not up to usual fall standards yet. Lots of grouper are biting in the 20-25 mile areas.

Gulfstream: For those boats making it out the tuna and wahoo are biting.

Sponsor's Corner: Fish Gulp by Berkley...see above; it's for real. Check Bug-Em Bait for summer close out specials...up to 50% off...910-452-9955 or 1-800-242-2493 or [email protected].

Let's Go Fishing!!!
