Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Fishing Report March 10, 2006

March 10, 2006

Hi Folks,

Just finished this year's Rod-Man Fishing School and it was a great success. We had a real good group and with their input have already started planning bigger and better things for next year...including more food. It was a hungry bunch. This weekend I will be in Holly Springs and next weekend in Greenville doing the North Carolina Sportsman Fishing School series. Hope to see you there. Now it's TIME for a fishing report.

Inshore: Warmer than normal waters are providing some good puppy drum and trout action in the surf, the inlets and waterway. I have heard reports of a few flounder. With good weather, we should be off to a great start VERY soon.

Nearshore: Some bottom fish activity is happening. In the next few days with the warm weather expect to see nice bluefish and even some bonito around the near shore artificial reefs.

Offshore: Plenty of big king mackerel are biting in the 30-35 mile range and they should be moving in closer this week. Grouper fishing in the 30 mile range is very good.

Gulfstream: The yellowfin tuna bite for the spring is underway. You bluewater anglers need to get out there.

It has been a busy winter for the Rod-Man. I have made some nice improvements to the boat, built and still building many fishing rods, and done numerous fishing seminars and schools. It's all been great. But now it is time to spool the reels with fresh line, make sure all the tackle is clean and ready with new hooks, and GO FISHING.

Sponsor's Corner: Berkley continues to come out with more and more varieties of Gulp. They even have the "nuclear chicken" which is basically the electric chicken color. Gulp cigar minnows are available and I hear that Gulp ballyhoo will be here soon. Okuma reels continue to be my reel of choice. These reels proved last summer and fall they were tough. I'll have them all spooled with Berkley Fireline, Spiderwire Stealth or Big Game. I am now associated with www.FryingPanTower.com . Be sure to check out their site and see the vast amount of information available to you.

IT'S TIME.....

LETS GO FISHING!!!
