Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report May 12, 2006
Rod-Man report May 12, 2006
Hi Everyone,
The fishing has really turned on this week. Spanish mackerel have shown up and bonito are still biting and the bluefish run is outstanding...and more.
Here's my report:
Inshore: Red drum are providing good action on falling tides around the waterway and creek docks and inlets. Live bait is now available and the best choice. Plenty of bluefish are in the inlets; best at high tide and they can be caught jigging with spoons or the bigger fish, up to almost double digits, can be caught on live bait. Look for flounder to show up any day! Cobia too!!!
Near Shore: The spanish have arrived. They are hitting Crystal Minnow Deep Divers trolled at 3 K, or clarkspoons trolled at 5.5 K. Bonito are still hanging around the 3 mile and 5 mile reefs. Watch for spring kings soon.
Offshore: There has been a good bite of kings and bonito at the 23 and WR 4. Reports of a few kings at the 10 mile areas are coming in now.
Gulfstream: Boats making the trip have found wahoo and mahi. A few tuna have been mixed in too.
The season is in high gear so make your plans to get on the water and catch some fish.
