Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report June 14, 2006

Rod-Man Report June 13, 2006:

Hi folks,

Well with the weather break (rain), I have time to catch you up on what's biting...just about everything. We have a mild system that is going to give us some much needed rain, but should only disrupt fishing for a day or two.

Inshore: Flounder fishing has taken off nicely. Our big fish this week was 7.3 pounds. Red drum are doing very well too. We had one instance where we caught 4 fish on 5 casts! All were released. Best bait for both flounder and reds has been live menhaden fished on a carolina rig. I use Fireline because its sensitivity helps identify the subtle flounder bite and the toughness helps land the reds around the heavy structure I fish.

Near shore: Spanish mackerel are still very plentiful with a few blues mixed in at any time. Large schools of menhaden are traveling up the beach and that spells the opportunity for cobia and even tarpon. Good size flounder are biting on the near shore artificial reefs.

Offshore: Kings are mainly biting form 10 miles to 25 miles. Some mahi have shown as well. Reef donkey's, aka amberjack have invade the offshore reefs are strong fun on good tackle.

Gulfstream: I have received reports of good catches of wahoo, mahi and tuna.

Fishing is in full swing and for most if not all, the children are out of school. Take a child fishing; it's a great sport.

Don't miss this week's pics of the week...some nice flounder at http://www.rodmancharters.com

Let's Go Fishing!!!
