Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report October 25, 2006
Rod-Man Report October 25, 2006:
Hi Folks,
Yep, it turned a bit chilly recently, but the fish are here. If the wind would abate just a bit and the rains would dry up, we might could catch some nice fish. It's been an unusual fall, weather wise, so far.
Now here's my report:
Inshore: Speckled trout are biting good and will be getting better everyday as the water cools. Best baits are GULP SW and small live finger mullet. Everyone knows for trout you need a smooth reel and the Okuma V series is the best I have found. Reds are biting too as are the flounder. Finger mullet are working well for them and for you artificial lovers a GULP SW swimming minnow fished on a spinner bait will get you plenty of action.
Near shore: I think, with the exception of a few sporadic bites, the spanish macks have left us and have been replaced by some nice bluefish. Bluefish lovers, this is your time of the year. Gray trout are still biting around the artificial and natural reefs. As the water cools look for the false albacore to move in and ball the bait fish.
Offshore: Kings are biting from 10-40 miles out. One for sure hot spot this time of year is Frying Pan Tower. False Albacore are biting in the 10-15 mile areas.
Gulfstream: I am getting reports of wahoo and blackfin tuna from the boats making it out to the stream.
