They say it is Spring...Hmmm

Capt. Richard Bennett

Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Folks,
Spring is running a bit late. Although meteorologically speaking, Spring is here, the sea water temps are running 56 and below. So fishing is a bit off. There are a few bright spots. Here's my report based on area reports.
INSHORE: Reds and blacks and a few trout are biting caught. Fresh shrimp and soft plastics are the main baits.
NEAR SHORE: Dogfish, small blues and sea bass are biting. No bonito yet!
OFFSHORE: Kings are being reported around Frying Pan Tower.
Gulf Stream: Wahoo and blackfin are biting when boats can get to them. High winds and therefore high seas have been the issue.
CAPE FEAR RIVER: Reds, blacks and some trout are being reported.
UPCOMING: We are finally getting a warming trend. As water temps rise, the fishing should get better and better. Look for bonito when the water pushes north of 60 degrees.
UNTIL NEXT TIME...LET'S GO FISHING!!!
