Bend - Freshwater Fishing Report
Deschutes River
It's that time of year again. As of Saturday all 100 miles of the Lower Deschutes will be open for business. The sections that have already been open have been fishing good despite the higher water we've had this spring. Out of the dams the flows have dropped to around 6200 cfs in the past week, which has opened up several more spots. Most days starting with a big stone fly nymph, trailed by your favorite attractor pattern is your best bet. Then around 1:00pm start watching for fish rising in back eddies or riffles. Most days we have been seeing good March Brown hatches, especially on the cloudy days.
Don't forget, the start of the salmon fly hatch is just a few short weeks away. The great thing about the big winter we've had is that it will most definitely extend the length of the salmon fly hatch this season well into June. The longer the big bugs are around the better in my opinion.
We have just a couple openings left for day trips and one slot left for an over night trip during the salmon fly hatch. So if you don't want to miss out on the mother of all hatches give a call soon.
