Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had very good SAILFISHING off Punta Burica last week. While sails are a bit sparse in places at this time of the year, we just hit it lucky, and were rewarded with 5 releases out of 9 hook-ups.
Using large Yo-ZURI ¨Surface Cruiser¨poppers(bl/pink/wh), we took the boat close to the many reefs close to the point and had 2 very nice(30&38 lb.) CUBERA SNAPPERS, two blue fin trevally, 3 jack crevalle, and a med.size ROOSTERFIsH of 35 lbs.
Closer to Isla Ladrones, about 9 miles out, we ran into large schools of bonito with porpoise milling around, so we took two bonito on feathers, bridled them to circle hooks, and trolled for the Island. Had one strong knock-down, but bait dropped, then about 3 miles off Ladrones, took a nice black marlin of 350 lbs.
Although the fish was hooked in the mouth, it´s heart gave out from the many jumps , fortunately close to the boat, and we only had to hanline it a short way to the top. Meat was distributed to needy locals.
Between Ladrones and Isla Montuosa, we ran into porpoise over tuna, and were able to take one of 60 lbs. on a Marauder(red/blk), and then a beauty of 120 lbs. on a Braid butterfly jig on a spinning combo. Fish would not come to tossed popping lures.
Isla Secas remains very good for ROOSTERFISH, but it seems we ´re seeing more and more local ¨parguero´s¨panga fishermen canvassing the rocks and reefs with spear-guns, making the roosters hard to find sometimes.
Boca Chica Fishing Forecast:

Look for WAHOO to start heating up from now on to December, when the water will warm back up.
Also, black marlin at Montuosa and the Hannibal Bank will get better in the coming months.
Big tuna are here now , and will only improve.
Snapper, grouper, and many others are here all the time.
