Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Our area in Panama is now offering excellent angling for trophy Wahoo. Fish to 100 lbs. are taken, with the average between 30 & 70 lbs. Huge schools of yellowfin tuna, with fish to 300lbs. taken almost daily, are now present in the Isla Ladrones, Isla Montuosa and Hannibal Bank areas.
Tuna schools are a mixture of small 'footballs' all the way to the big girls. Live baiting with blue runner/circle hook combos take the bigger fish, while trolling lipped plugs (rapalas), plastics, and tuna feathers taking the 'smaller' fish from 20-40 lbs.
Black Marlin are available, and bridling live 'footballs' circle hooked off the riggers have rewarded my charters with fish of 700, 450(2), and 400 lbs. recently. Live bonitos rigged the same way producing the biggest tuna and marlin.
Offshore 'high spots' also yielding nice catches of BIG cubera snapper to 60 lbs. Inshore, July will be the hottest month of the year for Corvina as they spawn in shallow water. Roosterfish and grouper biting hard and fast, as most boats with 'foreign' owners are closed down. Big female snook are in the rivers.
In Costa Rica, tuna have brought in good numbers of Pacific Sailfish who also feed on the tuna and the squid they chase. Wahoo in Panama will be the hottest from now to December.
Email for new, lower rates. Special Coiba Island/Hannibal Bank Trips. Now working for me is one of the best captains in all of Pacific Panama, Capt. Chi Chi Gonzales. If you would like the trip of your life, call to make arrangements . This is a fly-in directly to Coiba. Five day trips only 2-3 anglers. Still some Dorado (Mahi) around to mix up the catch.
Capt. Bob
