Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Costa Rica--Golfito Offshore
Sailfish numbers continue to increase every trip out. Schools of three-five now getting common. Live baiting with sardines is a blast. Client WAYNE MALLOY and son BUDDYhave had a great five day run. We started with small tides and small water movement, making fishing a bit slow, but GOLFITO SPORT FISHING Capts. Ricardo and Jose Guerra(Now known as "The Blues Brothers") used all their savvy and had fish to the boat while many boats just had a fine ride.
Sardine /circle hook combo's and the 'bait n' switch' technique are the ticket, but plastics are also bringing strikes off the riggers.
Tuna are here , and big ones. Yellowfin close to 300 lbs. are being taken, however many times the schools are scattered and spooked by inexperienced boats crashing the school, trying to drop a live bait in the middle of the porpoise, instead of running alongside and getting far in front, then waiting for the tuna/dolphin to overtake the boat. Oh well.
Large DORADO and a few WAHOO are still out there. Wayne and Bud had a big school of dorado crashing bait bals yesterday as they headed home, and were able to boat three beauties to 45 lbs. before calling it a day.
BLUE and BLACK MARLIN are under the bait for sure, but are so full of natural food they are really picky. These clients didn't want to target marlin specifically, so we didn't do any deep trolling with bridled bonito's.
Weather is perfect, more fish every day! What else can I say! Book a charter with us now , as the action will continue HOT until the end of MAY. And bring those FLY RODS!!!!
Nothing like a billfish on a feather.
PANAMA OFFSHORE- Punta Burica / Isla Ladrones / Charco Azul Area
Panama area from Isla Montuosa to Punta Burica continues to offer great billfishing. BLACK MARLIN on slow-trolled bonito/circle hook combo'sget the strikes off Isla Ladrones and following the deep drop all the way to Punta Burica.
Yellowfin TUNA are in large schools, and the sails are in the mix. Huge porpoise schools leaping and racing each other to the feeding frenzy get everyone pumping.
WAHOO are still around in good numbers, early and late in the day. Wahoo Bombs and Yo-Zuri and Braid Marauders are working great , and they'll get a billfish that otherwise won't come all the way to the surface to strike deep.
Sailfish are schooling about two miles from Ladrones , and on a course trolled to Burica, there are plenty of strikes from these and some very nice DORADO(mahi).

COSTA RICA INSHORE-GOLFO DUCE TO PUNTA BURICA
Clients had a nice mix of species while bottom fishing off Punta Mata Palo , Punta Banco, and some of the other reefs and rocks we have on our GPS. Buddy Malloy took his first ever ROOSTERFISH on a live sardine/circle hook . Many ,many roosters teased to boatside, but they seemed either full of natural bait or just sluggish due to the small tides. But there are plenty of fish. We had CUBERA SNAPPER, BLUEFIN TREVALLY, YELLOWTAIL SNAPPER, BARRACUDA, JACK CREVALLE ,MOST RELEASED, WITH a few for the table.
SNOOK fishing will be fine now that all the rainy season debris had cleared from the rivers.
