Panama - Boca Chica

Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Costa Rica

Capt. Tom Sydowski of Orient, (L.I.)N.Y. is in town this week to do some work on his beach home and get in a little fishing. We'll keep you posted on that.

Still lots of Yellowfin tuna outside. Blue marlin are around the tuna schools, and under the offshore floating debris. Logs, rope, etc. holding baitfish have big girls underneath. Not too many dorado out there right now, and sails are present but not in big numbers. Good time for a tuna, marlin , and inshore combo trip.

Plenty of corvina , snapper, African pompano, and roosterfish on the reefs and along the surf. Fishing pressure way down.

Been doing some deep jigging and getting some really savage strikes out off Punta Banco. I think there are rock snapper out here that are never going to be brought to the boat. You can tell their fight, but only for a minute or two, then it's "Rewind and Re-rig"!!

Got a 'new' grouper number from a commercial boat friend. More news on that later, after the test.

News about the re-kindling of the Marina in Golfito project has a lot of gringo's down here looking at property. Maybe it'll go this time.

Almost time to get geared up for the big SNOOK when they head upriver. Always a blast on the robalo's !!

Marlin-Wahoo-Tuna

Our area around Isla Parida and Isla Ladrones, with an ocassional trip to PUNTA BURICA has been very productive for all species.

Casting large poppers into and around porpoise schools over tuna is getting to be very addictive.

Yellowfin over 100 lbs. on spinning gear is pure heaven, if you can stand the pain!!

Blue marlin on live bonitos and small yellowfins, bridled with circle hooks and slow-trolled around Ladrones' high spots is producing some steady action.

Seem to be a lot of male(as in small(er)) marlin around.

Outside the reefs off Punta Burica, at the start of the big blue hole that leads to Puerto Armuelles, we've seen action on every trip. Fish can be marked for the next trip, and found again in the same place days later.

Got into some great triple tail action on an offshore log out there the other day. On small clousers. Dull green and white. Weather holding nicely.
