Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

COSTA RICA--GOLFITO AREA
We just sent Gianbattista Ziliani and his four friends from Brecia, Italy, home with fantastic stories to tell of their angling adventures with us.
Very, very nice people.
The El Nino effect still remains , with it's high surface temps., but we've had some good rains of late(Easter starts winter here)and the temps have dropped to 85-86 degree range. This has brought more sails to the top, and the bait n' switch has worked really well with them.
Live sardines on 10/0 Diachii circle hooks had the men from Italy whooping with joy as the sails danced all over the Pacific.
We also had some very nice yellowfin tuna in the 25-40 lb. class, saving some for sashimi, Italian style..
dorado came to the lures also, butas is often the case, the biggest got away. Capt. Jose Guerra estimated the lost trophy at close to 70 pounds.
Inshore, the guys had some great snapper fishing on our structure, using live sardines to take "PARGO AMARILLO" or yellowtail snapper, a beautiful RED SNAPPER of 10 lbs., and an awesome battle that ended with a 25 lb. CUBERA SNAPPER in the boat. There were a lot of JACK CREVALLE, BLUE FIN TREVALLY, and BARRACUDA caught also, and all but one "blue jack" were released unharmed.
Gianni promised to come back with more friends in MAY, and I think that will be a hot month. Hot fishing , that is.
We've got enough HOT, as in weather, to go around for a long time.
Water temps will continue to drop with rain and accompanying cloud cover becoming more frequent now.
PANAMA-- Punta Burica to Coiba Island
Reports from other sport boats have not been very promising on the HANNIBAL BANK, with hot water keeping th e fishing on the slow side.
One america angler from Golfito traveled all the way from Golfito to Coiba , and told me he wasted his time.
Actually, we've been fishing the Punta Burica side from C.R. and have had good luck on sails and dorado.
Not too much MARLIN action right now, but that should improve.
August/ September will be hot for big blacks again this year, mark my words !
Good Fishing !! Wherever You Are !! Capn Bob
