Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama Offshore
Patches of RED TIDE continue to affect inshore fishing, but troling offshore , even in the middle of the funky-smelling water, still produces strikes.
Capt. Pete LaFleche, piloting the "CORK" helped his better half, Annie Cavander, to a very nice blue marlin of around 300 lbs.
Pete was pulling plastics (that's ALL he pulls)and the fish came on the rigger to a Moldcraft chugger, green/yellow/pink.
Pete and Anne also had two sails in the same area, one released at the boat, and the other " a little farther away" from boatside.
The sails were after his "go-to" lure, the Moldcraft 'green machine'. Pete NEVER leaves the dock until it is confirmed that at least two of that lure are on board, and not in the back of the truck.
Yellowfin tuna are more and more prevalent, but farther out. We hit a school 20 miles outside ISLA LADRONES, had a big girl on first until the hook pulled, then caught 6 in the 20-30 lb. class.
WAHOO should be making a showing early this year, as we're having some very heavy, cooling rains. That always get's them goin' !!
Talk to you soon !!

Costa Rica Offshore
Punta Banco( Pavones) to Punta Burica
Some red tide , in patches, is all around, outside and near shore, but sails were biting 7 miles off MATA PALO on trolled plastics two days ago.
We had some action on 'football' size yellowfin tuna , taking 8 fish from 10 to 20 lbs., and one that was close to 40 lbs.
LOTS of marlin outside, from 5 to 25 miles.
Some boats releasing 3 marlin a day, which ain't bad for the so-called "off season".
Marlin will peak in August -Sept., but the billfishing, both for sails AND marlin, is very good right now.
Did some deep jigging the other dayin 150 ft.
Some very nice AMBERJACK , all around 30 lbs.(like quadruplet sisters), and a yellowtail snapper of 5 lbs.
Tried for some corvina and snook in our favorite "hole", but the wind and surf got a little annoying, so I headed home.
Rounding the point at PLAYA ZANCUDO, which is only about 200 meters from our dock, the shore casters were heaving lures into the incoming current rip.
It looked SO-O good, I had to stop and drown a few sardines.
Lures would have been better. I watched as one of the local boys caught two nice snook and then headed home.
One bite that killed my live bait wasn't detected until I reeled it in to check it and re-cast.
Evidently, as happens sometimes, the snook mouthed the bait, but instead of swallowing it and heading AWAY from the boat, she came TOWARDS me a bit, then just sat there, finally dropping the bait.
Unmistakable bite marks on it though.
Threw the rest of my bait overboard and headed to the dock before the afternoon rains came in. Nice day on the water. Amberjack. M-m-m Good !
June will be the hot time for the big corvina, and with the majority of lodges shutting down, we'll be one of the few who'll keep the doors open for some great inshore angling for roosters, snappers , and snook, along with our favorite table fish, the wonderful corvina !
Good Fishing, Wherever You ARE ! Capn Bob
