Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama--Isla Parida, Isla Ladrones to Punta Burica
Had a chance to get out for some wahoo trolling around Parida and inside Ladrones last week. We had some bad weather days , low pressure system going through, but after it cleared, it was like summer out there.
Calm seas and biting fish!!
Nailed two nice hoo's on a dorado colored rapala, and a MANN'S deep diving plug in chartreuse. Both around 30-35 lbs.
At Ladrones, we bridled a couple of feather-caught bonito's and idle-trolled them around a few loops of the island and over the high spots.
Had one knockdown, waited for the return chomp, but didn't happen. Came back around with the other bait and had another knocdown. This time we were on !
But, it wasn't our big wahoo, or even a marlin.
After 35 minutes, I put the gaff into a brute of a 55 lb. CUBERA SNAPPER. She was the same one, we think, that ripped the other bait off and got away, leaving just the hook and a bit of rigging thread.
Found some porpoise while trolling plastics, mostly jet-heads, towards Punta Burica and took 9 yellowfin tunas, all around 10-15 lbs. Great fun.
Since we had enough fish, we decided not to make a loop over to Isla Montuosa, saving that trip for another time. Maybe this weekend.
Black MARLIN will be getting hott-er as we head towards August.
Reports from a commercial boat hand said there were some BIG tuna over by Montuosa.
We'll be in touch !!
GOOD FISHING, WHEREVER YOU ARE !!! Capn Bob
Costa Rica- Cabo Mata Palo to Punta Burica
Limbered up the motors yesterday with some run and gun trolling about 12 miles off Punta Banco.
Found a trash line and some birds working, and they were on a bunch of small tunas and a few dorado.
Took 6 tunas, all yellowfin, a VERY big skipjack, and then picked two 10 lb. doradito's off a floating log.
There were some triple tail under the wood too, but we couldn't get a hook in one of them.
Lots of bait in the Golfo Duce and outside. Many , many small bonito's.
Should be a fantastic MARLIN bite next month.
If you have the time , Aug.-Sept. is THE time to hook up on that BIG lady Marlin mutha you've always dreamed about !
Give us a shout!
Capn Bob
