Panama - Boca Chica

Capt. Bob Baker
August 22, 2007
Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Costa Rica- Panama Punta Burica to Punta Mata Palo

Marlin, and MORE marlin!

Three , four up a day in the spread, and whatever you get lucky with for release.

Weather a bit iffy, but today, "post Dean" we have calm or no wind , blue skies, and a warm sun.

Should be good now for awhile, after all that low pressure.

Some small dorado and a few smallish tuna, but don't rmix the wasabi or fire up the parilla until you have them in the boat ! "Planning" to have a fish fry BEFORE you leave port can lead to many hungry people.

One old gentleman, here in Zancudo with his son and a friend, invited everyone within earshot of his barstool to an evening fish fiesta. Those of us that live here accepted, but went home to thaw out some chicken and make up the rice.

They DID mix up some jack crevalle in some rice ,but the promised sashimi and broiled dorado were just a dream.

Marlin are hanging off Punta Burica, about 5-6 miles off, where the edge of the Big Blue Hole comes up.

Inshore for roosters and snapper, some corvina is still good.

Had a good laugh at Capt. weiss' "little tunita" that wound up winning the Tourney in Panama!!

My crew for the 2000 Coiba Tourney had the winner, and we filleted it while re-fueling, IN SIGHT OF THE SCALES!! We had weighed it at 14 lbs. NEVER say "Too small to hang on the scale !" Plus, the mate dropped one side of the filet overboard !

Did it again, almost, at the Pedregal inshore tourney. Gave a dockboy a sierra mackeral and two jack crevalle in exchange for washing the boat down.

Then, one of my crew for the day comes running down the dock, excitedly asking me where is the macarela??!!

Turns out it won that division ! Like 4 lbs.

We lost by one point for Grand Champion to a guy who bought a roosterfish a little bigger than ours.

Good Fishing, Wherever You Are !!
