Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama-Punta Burica , Isla Ladrones, Isla Montuosa
The weather is finally evening out towards summer, and even though we knew the fish had never "left" , they can now be SEEN more easily, and without the boat occupants taking a beating, and/or soaking.
Ahuge trash line was found ten miles off Punta Burica last week, and there were a lot of sailfish and dorado under it. Two boats had three marlin releases. (2&1).
Plastics were working well, and one marlin, a blue, was taken on a bridled bonito fished, drifted under a big palm stump.
We also threw small chunks of sardine under that stump and took some very nice tripletails. Excellent eating fish. Thank you, God.
Isla Ladrones was a little slow, but we had two big dorado on plastic/w mullet and a cubera snapper that came up to swallow a bridled bonito.
Following day we concentrated on Montuosa, and had two sails released, two marlin strikes, both lost, and 5 yellowfin tuna jigged up under the schools of bonitos. Great fun.
Bring Yo-Zuri, Braid, or similar jigs with you when you come. Pink works great, and chartreuse also gets em'.
Tried the grounds between Montuosa and Parida for wahoo, but just didn't click. They're being caught though. Just not by us on that day.

Costa Rica--Golfito Offshore
Very consistent action for marlin and sailfish. Dorado are a welcome sight too.
Most boats coming in with at least 2-3 sailfish releases, and stories of marlin hokked and lost, not hooked but seen, and a few releases with happy endings.
Sad to see the "Buen Dia" restaurant in Golfito offering marlin on their menu. I told the manager I wasn't eating there anymore, and why.
Fish are 20 miles from Mata Palo, and hanging there day after day.
Lots of bait out there. Dorado stomachs are full of squid. Everybody loves squid, even us humans.
Inshore, we've been concentrating on the calba, or "fat" snook running in the Rio Coto. Great fishing off my dock under the light.
Book that trip now for prime dates, we're ready !! And so are the fish !
Good Fishing, Wherever You Are,
