Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a boat out following the recent "honda tropicale" or low pressure system that just dumped a LOt of rain over a two day period, and after some morning searching, found a good number of seabirds and the yellowfin ON TOP !
With two surf/spin rods ready, one hanging a Yo-Zuri 'butterfly" jig in pink/silver and the other w/ a Yo-Zuri 'Surface Cruiser" attched, we skirted the school, monitoring their direction, then cast both rigs into the foam as the fish reached us.
The jig got hit first, and after 40 minutes , a 110 lb. beauty was gaffed over the side and onto the ice.
We had to gun it to catch up with the front of the school again, bu had ANOTHER on the jig right away, this time with the other angler doing the casting/pulling.
But the surface popper got hit as well, on the third try, and we had our double.
Grunt, Moan....Reels screaming..
Both fish almost twins of 100 lbs. each.
We tried again , but the fish seemed to be spooked now, and wouldn't bite. Plus, they were heading AWAY from our chosen direction.
So, we put out skirted mullet on the riggers , and a huge Black Bart and a big Mold-Craft on the flat lines, and hoped for a marlin or sail to come up.
What we got was a 45 lb. DORADO that tried to swallow as much as he could of the Mold Craft on the 50#.
Two hours later we saw the porpoise leaping and twisting out of the water and we were again headed into tuna action.
Switched the flatline lures to Yo-Zuri Bonito lures, one with an extra egg sinker attached to the swivel w/ 6 lb. mono to get it down a bit deeper, and that was what got hit first ! The slip-knotted sinker shook free and it was two hours before we saw the 230 lb. slob come circling up from he depths. Two gaffs took her over the gunwale.
We then had a hit and miss on the short rigger,
then a hookup on the left long.
This one was almost as big , 205 lbs., and we decided to work up the fish, ice them correctly, and head for the pool,MORE cold beer, and the grill.
It's getting better and better out there.
Things are lookng hot for December and beyond.
Booked two fly fishermen from Scotland for a May trip ..a split trip for Atlantic tarpon and snook and then Pacific Sailfish(and whatever else).
Hope to see all of you here this season !
Good Fishing, Wherever You Are !
