Puerto Rico - San Juan Estuary

Capt. Till Brauer Mongil
January 9, 2008
San Juan - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for january 9, 2008

Good Morning!! A belated happy New Year 2008 to one and all! As typical for this time of the year, I have been fishing almost constantly with the usual great success for our charter customers. So here I am, Captain Till with the latest report from San Juan, well we had a severe cold front hit the island these past few days, which affected the tarpon bite somewhat, but everyone that bait fished caught their tarpon.

There is a large quantity of medium sized fish in the San Juan Estuary, most of these fish are in the 10 to 30 pound range, but larger sized specimens have been battled, caught and released during the past week.

The conditions offshore have been dangerous for the past few days with very big sea conditions, courtesy of the cold front winds. This front is already leaving the area, where once again temperatures should return to the upper 80's in the next few days.

Live baits utilized in the past few days include mainly Bay Anchovies, Threadfin Herring and Mojarra.

Mike Olson caught this nice tarpon on 12 pound test! (See Photo). Congratulations on a job well done, Mike showed lot's of patience and physical endurance during this battle.

We have several openings for the following months, and expecting the delivery of our new flagship, a brand new 2008 Hydra Sport Bay Bolt with a 150 Horsepower Yamaha Four Stroke due in Puerto Rico in late February, be one of the first to fish this new breed of boat, described as a flats boat on steroids!

Notice to Fishermen traveling to Puerto Rico, before choosing your charter services provider, do your homework by doing research in the internet, there are few highly experienced Captain’s fishing full time for Tarpon in the San Juan area. Read their credentials, reports and other available information.

DO NOT book your charter through a hotel concierge or tour and travel desk; these people DO NOT know fishing. In most cases, you will save money, and catch more fish and enjoy a day in the water with highly skilled Captain’s with many years of experience.

As always you can reach me at 787-448-6665 or by email [email protected] or [email protected]

Keep safe and hope to see you soon in Puerto Rico
