August temps and bites heat up in the Lowcountry

Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

We've had some very hot weather in August so far, but the fishing has actually been very good. The inshore bite has really improved as the creek shrimp are starting to move, and have sized up to great bait size. A little bit of current, clean water, and oyster shell is the recipe for success. We have been catching a very mixed bag. The puppy drum, or this years Redfish, have moved out of the marsh into creeks and flats, and have been very active. Had a trip last week with 35 Redfish, and only a dozen were in the slot or over. Sea trout are also starting to show, and Ladyfish, Bluefish, and Jack Crevalle are readily available. An occasional Flounder is showing up, and of course the ever present Bonnethead sharks are always hungry. The fishing should just continue to improve as we get some Northeast winds and cooler temps, and fall should be fantastic.
