Broad River Redfish bite is still hot

Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Redfish bite continues to be good in the Beaufort River and Broad River areas. As the water temperature has risen to around 70 degrees, we are seeing more and more bait come into the estuary. Mullet and small Menhaden are now prevalent everywhere you look, and the Bonnet Head sharks are showing up. This is a sign that our spring season in underway. The Redfish have scattered into smaller schools and are taking mud minnows and mullet under popping corks. We put over twenty in the boat Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, along with the first trout of the year, and a couple of flounder. There have been reports of Cobia sightings in the Broad River, and they are not unexpected as I saw several Loggerhead turtles in the river on Wednesday, along with schools of Menhaden. They should be coming in on these big tides as the Full Moon is Sunday. Hopefully we will have a great Cobia season in May and early June, especially if we can get the wind to cooperate and give us some nice slick days to sight fish.
Beaufort Fishing Forecast:

Look for Cobia to start showing in catchable numbers next week after the moon. Live greenies or eels are the ticket for chumming to the anchor, or if conditions allow throwing either of the above or artificials to cruising fish will be excellent.
