Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

With the water temperatures dipping down below 50 now, our efforts have turned to Redfish on the flats. We are fishing them on low tides, as the sun tends to warm the mud and in turn the water, and the bite turns on. Have had several very good trips the last week, and put a number of nice slot Redfish in the boat. Have been catching them on the always good Gulp baits, the 4 inch Gulp shrimp being my favorite. I like to dead stick the bait in front of the schools as they approach, with no weight and a No. 1 Mutu light wire circle hook. These fish are biting soft, so do not jerk the hook from their mouths. Let the line come tight, reel down, and then raise the rod tip with some pressure and you will be in business. Bass fisherman are notorious for snatching circle hooks out the fishes mouth before it can turn and do its job! Mid day low tides are as good as it gets.
