Mixed bite in the Lowcountry

Capt. Rick Percy
June 20, 2014
Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

As our water temps have warmed to over 80 degrees now, lots of different fishing opportunities are available. Some Cobia are still being caught in the Broad River, and at the offshore reefs. The nearshore Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish bite has slowed down a little. Inshore, the Redfish bite is taking off. We hooked up on 16 this morning, along with a couple of flounder. The sea trout have been a little tougher to find, but did get on a fun topwater bite early yesterday morning. Trout are my favorite fish, and its hard to beat a big trout smashing a Zara Spook on the surface. Black drum have also moved up on the same flats with the Redfish, and quartered crabs or shrimp will get you a bite from either species. To top it off our Tarpon have showed, and are being caught in the sound and rivers, with live Menahaden being the bait of choice in the lowcountry.
