Slow Cobia year inside Port Royal Sound

Capt. Rick Percy
June 1, 2014
Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

With all the screwy weather we have had this spring and the slow water warm up, our Cobia run never really materialized like normal. There were certainly fish caught in the Broad River, but I have to believe the numbers were never near what we have seen in the past. Lots of reports of Cobia hanging on the wrecks offshore, but they must have slipped on to the north rather than coming inside like usual in good numbers. Have had some success the past week on Redfish, using mud minnows under popping corks on lower water, and picking up a nice roe trout or two along the way. Also caught some real nice Weakfish on the General Gordon artificial reef last week. The Spanish Mackerel we were working nearshore disappeared last week, but hopefully that bite will pick up again shortly.
