Tarpon and Redfish still strong in the Port Royal Sound

Capt. Rick Percy
September 16, 2012
Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

Having had a couple weeks off for an Alaska salmon trip, got back on the water this past week. Still hearing reports of Tarpon being jumped. Most are being caught with live or fresh dead Menhaden, some fished on top and some on the bottom. The key to finding these fish is to find the bait flow, and keep your eyes open for fish rolling or busting baits. The Redfish bite continues to improve as the water is just starting to cool down a little. Caught 30 trout and 25 Redfish this week on two trips. Most of the trout are still under the 14" minimum, but should size out nicely in the next two months. Live shrimp and mud minnows were the trick on both trips.
