Best Trout bite in years

Capt. Rick Percy
December 2, 2016
Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

After two winters of mild temperatures with no cold fish kills, our Seatrout fishing in the Lowcountry is the best I have seen it in years, in terms of quantity and quality. Our water temperatures are still in the low sixties, and the bite won't turn off until the water temps dip below fifty. So unless we have an extreme cold front come through, it looks as though the bite will continue well into January. Limits (10 trout over 14 inches) have been very common. And some big fish are showing up. I had a client put one in the boat that measured over 24 inches and pulled the boga scale down between 5 and 6 pounds. That is a very nice trout for our area. I have been catching these fish on all stages of the tide, using a Vudu shrimp under a popping cork, or live minnows or shrimp the same. We've had plenty of 40 fish days. And it will just get better.
