Trout, Trout, and more Trout

Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

Finished up the year with several trips this past week. Our go to fish have been the Speckled Seatrout. We have been averaging 20 to 40 trout per half day trip. Our water temperatures have stayed in the mid fifties range, and the bite has been very active. On high tide we have been throwing Vudu shrimp under a popping cork along the grass edges, and doing very well. On lower water I have been catching them deeper, in as much as 14 feet of water and strong current. The best method has been using a 1/4 oz jig head, with either a live shrimp or soft plastic, such as the Norton Sand Eel Jr. The key is to work the bait up or cross current, and walk it down the ledges. Line management is critical to feel the bite. Almost half the trout we have been catching are hitting the 14 inch minimum, with a number of 17 inch fish thrown in the mix. If we can escape the next two months with no very cold temps, our trout population for next season will be absolutely fantastic.
