Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE LBJ

LARGEMOUTH males are going shallow and roaming in 2'-4' on flats of pockets and coves. Wacky rigged electric blue Scoundrel worms, 1/4 oz. Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads are all producing bass from 2 to 4 lbs. The larger females are moving up but are holding along breaklines of the channels. Watermelon Devil' Tongues, pumpkin/chartreuse Zilla lizards and 1/4 oz. pumpkin Terminator jigs with craw trailers are good. CRAPPIE in the 12" - 17" class are very good in 1'-3' of water using red/chartreuse Tiny Tubes or white or chartreuse 1/32 oz. Curb's crappie jigs. Our clients are taking limits right now. Water conditions are just right for great fishing as all species begin the spawn. STRIPERS are up shallow early running shad in 2'-5'. Plastic jerkbaits, chrome 'Traps and even white Terminator spinnerbaits are good choices. After the sun is up good move out past the breaklines and fish live bait or white bucktail jigs, Lit'l Fishie Shads or #5 Terminator In-Line Spinners. LARGEMOUTH are moving along channels onto stump flats in creeks and the upper islands. Pumpkin/char lizards, crawfish 3" Super Tubes, Silver Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits and Smokin' Green Devil's Tongues will work. CANYON LAKE

Now is the time for the best largemouth and smallmouth fishing of the whole year on Canyon Lake. Work secondary creek channel breaklines in 4'-12' with pumpkin/char. lizards, 3" chartreuse (Creme Lures) Super Tubes, white Terminator spinnerbaits and crawfish 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps. STRIPERS AND WHITE BASS are still very good both upriver and in the major creeks of the main lake. Look for humps in 20+ ' of water and vertically jig Horizon Prik Minnows, Lit'l Fishie Shads or live bait. BOOK YOUR TRIP NOW BEFORE THE RECREATIONAL BOATERS TAKE OVER THE LAKE. CHOKE CANYON

This is THE HOTTEST lake in central or south Texas. Bass over 12 lbs. (and numbers of quality fish in the 2 - 8 lb. class) are being caught regularly and some people even predict at least a lake record, if not a state record could come any day now through April. It is taking over 27 lbs. (5 fish) to win tournaments on Choke right now. In Possum, Mason and Greyhound Point try white/char. or Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits, pumpkin lizards or Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs. In the lower end of the lake big bass are on rocky points and in pockets. Lizards, Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits, crawfish 'Traps and chamelon Scoundrel worms are good.
