Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report
CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 64 degrees; 2.5' low:
Follow the baitfish as they migrate from mainlake and secondary points into bays along breaklines of flats at the mouth of creeks. It's typical in the fall as waters cool, schooling activity has started taking place as bass force pods of shad out of the middle of creek channels and into shallow areas. If topwaters/ power fishing are your preference, these techniques are good now and will only continue to get better.
Largemouth are VERY good in 3'-8' along breaklines of flats w/channels leading to feeder creeks using white Tiny-T buzzbaits, Rat-L-Traps, swimming a 2" Spoiler Shad and/or working a Zara Spook through surface activity when you find it. Upriver, topwaters like a Zara Spook,JR. &/or watermelon JDC Skip-N-Pop, 3/8 oz. Terminator "stainless" spinnerbaits, shallow running crankbaits and blk/blue 6" worms are producing in 3'-6' on channel turns and flats w/stumps and laydowns.
Smallmouth are good to 4 lbs over rock piles and along bluff ledges in 4'-12" using Tiny-T spinnerbaits, 1/4 oz. Traps, smoke 3" Super Tubes and 4" rootbeer JDC Strike Grubs along the bluffs.
Stripers are slow to only fair in the lower end suspending over 60' humps but be on the lookout for diving birds to direct you to surface activity
as the water continues to cool.

Lake Buchanan: Water clear; 63 degrees; (6.5' Low)
The fall transition is in full swing. Shad are moving into creeks and feeders with bass in hot pursuit. Typical ambush points are rockpiles, stumps and laydowns along breaklines of flats as shallow
as 2' offers great topwater and power fishing. Action in Morgan, Beaver and all the way to the Apple Orchard are good locations.
Largemouth are good in numbers 2'- 6' deep in creeks and feeders using a small profile 7/16 oz. Terminator tungsten spinnerbaits, 1/8 oz. Tiny-T buzzbaits, 1/4 oz. Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Traps, Chug Bugs/ Zara Spooks, 2" Spoiler Shad & swimming 4" smoke-pepper JDC Strike Grubs. A Texas rigged 4" or 5" Whacky Stick are good lures to follow up missed or short strikes on motion baits.
Stripers are good from the surface down to 30' on Smithwick Rogues, Snap Back soft jerkbaits rigged on a weighted 5/0 Bait Jerker Hook by Falcon Lures, Pirk Minnows, white bucktail jigs w/trailers & drifting live bait from Breezy Point to Flag Island.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 64 degrees; 824.95':
Largemouth are very good to 6 lbs. roaming breaklines of flats & sloping points leading into creeks and pockets 3'-6' deep on 1/4 oz. Bleeding Shad Rat-l-Traps, 7/16 oz. white-chartreuse Terminator
tungsten spinnerbaits, Tiny-T buzzbaits, pitching watermelon creature baits and 3/16 oz. black-red jigs to boat docks, brushpiles and rip rap on points.
A Texas rigged weightless green-pumpkin or watermelon Whacky Stick makes a great followup lure for missed or short strikes.
Stripers are showing up in the shoals where a white Snap Back jerkbait and Rat-L-Traps are producing.
