Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Canyon Lake: Water gin clear; 62 degrees; 907.15':

Largemouth are good in 2'-12' along chunk & boulder rock inside of vertical timber w/deeper water nearby using Texas rigged watermelon-red Creme Scoundrel worms, 4" pumpkin Ring Worms and smoke-red Snap Back tubes. Bass are schooled up by year class roaming openwater flats and creek channels feeding on shad on the surface. Spinnerbaits plastic swim baits, swimming a JDC 4" Strike Grub and lipless crankbaits will be your best lure choices when you run across surface activity. Terminator football head jigs & silver Pirk Minnows (around pods of shad)are producing when worked down secondary points and/or natural submerged rock jetties in 12'-25'.

Smallmouth are very good over shallow rockpiles and along bluff ledges in 3'-10' on smoke colored 4" inch JDC grubs, 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps and split shot rigged Devil's Tongues.

Stripers are improving but surface activity is short-lived over areas with humps in 40'-60' vertically jigging Pirk Minnows, weighted white Snap Back jerkbaits and cranking deep diving Rogues.
