Galveston Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Water temps have continued to rise, reaching the mid 70s now - and we are seeing the effects here in Galveston. Water has been clean and bait-fish very prevalent.
The sheepshead are still thick, and I am certain we are on the tail end of the spawn. As this happens - we will be seeing more and more Speckled Trout take their place.
Big Drum have actually been biting better this past week, and hope it continues into the weekend for the 18th Annual Turning Point Drum Tournament for the Physically Challenged that will kick off tonight with the Captain's Meeting at the Galveston Yacht Basin. We always support this event and provide a couple of boats and Captains for this awesome tournament. Last year we had Stephen and he place in the youth division and we had a great time. I attached a photo from last year. I will post after this weekend and hopefully we place again!
The major changes we have seen in past week and half is Spanish Mackeral showing up as well as some Ling in close. There were a couple small ling (30 inch) reported circling a boat yesterday. I am pretty certain we had one hooked.... but we will never know. Also, some pretty big sharks are already showing up along the jetties, as some of our sheepshead had fresh wounds from something pretty large!
We are also seeing more specks showing up along the rocks. The redfish are still thick - bulls and slots.
Fishing here in Galveston will continue to get better and we anticipate some great summer fishing this year if our spring success is an indication of what is to come. Our offshore trips are starting to book up for June, and we still have some availability. I have attached some of last years photos of our offshore trips out of Galveston.
We always encourage getting kids and families out on the water with us. No matter your families fishing skill - we have a trip that will be right for you and get you hooked up!
