Galveston Flounder Gigging & Redfish

Galveston Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most of my trips lately have been our 'Fish/Gig Combos'. On these charters we fish for a few hours until dark targeting redfish, speckled trout and flounder. Once the sun goes down we put up the fishing poles, turn the fan motor on and cruise the bay flats hunting flounder to gig.

The redfish bite has been very good. We are catching nice upper slot reds in 1' to 2' of water on live mullet and mudfish. We are targeting main bay drains with sand/she'll mix bottom. The speckled trout bite has been a bit slow.

We are gigging full limits or just a little shy of flounder up to 23". Sand and clay bottom has been the key. The flounder are stacked when you find them, meaning we may go 100 yards before we see a fish, then see 5 to 10 in a 20 yard stretch.
