Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is about 10 inches below normal level and clear in most areas with water temperature in the mid to upper 80's. Largemouth bass fishing is good early and late on topwaters and soft plastics.
Pop-Rs and Super Spook Jrs. are the topwaters that are working well. Yum houdini worms 4.75 inch in Junebug or watermelon color is catching most of the fish this week. Light weight carolina rig or split shotting is what has been working best. Shallow around the willows is good early and late and 8 to 10 feet in the same areas is producing as the sun gets high.

White bass fishing is very good with topwater schooling happening all over the lake. The area we are fishing is from Wolf Island on the east arm of the lake to The marina on the west arm of the lake and anywhere in between. It takes some boat riding and looking to find active schooling and the best areas change day to day. A lot of the schooling sand bass are small and just under keeper size of 10 inches but fun to catch on top. Some days we catch bigger keepers under the schooling fish with jiggin spoons but there is plenty of keepers schooling on top also you just have to catch a bunch of fish to fill the ice chest. As always we catch all our deep fish on Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon. The schooling topwater fish can be caught on any small crank bait, topwater, spoon or jig. There is more birds showing up everyday and they help find the best areas to look for schooling fish. This week there has been more schooling in shallow water 15 feet or less and some times right in the middle of the day. The super heating of the water with the heat wave we are in is bringing the shad up in shallower water and the fish are following.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
