Lake Michigan Milwaukee fish report
By Capt. Jim Hirt
May fishing continues to be very productive out of Milwaukee. Brown trout, Chinooks, Rainbows and some coho fill the cooler. Yes, some coho on flasher flies. The weather has been all over the map. It's always a challenge to decide if the lake conditions will allow us to get out. The Brown trout have been in the 3-11 pound size coming on Fishlander ultra glow spoons in a variety of sizes and colors. The best color pattern was easter egg green or blue glow. We also had good action on small white or silver blade spoons with blue, orange or yellow stripes. Larger Chinooks 12-16 pounds have been a regular part of the catch. The Chinooks are hitting the same spoons as the Browns and also green opti-dodger or flasher fly combinations. Inside the harbor along the outside of the break wall and north to the Filtration plant in 35-50 feet of water is where most of the fish were holding. Action came on planer boards, dipseys and downriggers. All presentations were working. We worked the surface down to the bottom. 22 feet to the surface was best. The boat speed of 2.0-2.4 G.P.S gave the best results. Good luck Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI.
