Fishing Report for Lake Michigan - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Capt. Jim Hirt

Milwaukee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report 6/23/2006

By Capt. Jim Hirt Charter fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We have been out every day. The best action has been from 50 to 120 feet of water most anywhere out of Milwaukee. The area north in Whitefish Bay was the best last night and consistently produces all season. Coho have been in temps from 50 to 57. Lake Trout are in 50 degrees and colder and Chinooks have been active in 44 to 52. A must have is a temperature gauge that will tell you temp at the lure. Several types are available. There is one that is a thermometer you hang on your downrigger weight for about $10 that will give you a rough idea. A more expensive option is a cable unit with a counter that you stop the boat and let it down I used one of these for years. The top of the line is probe you attach in line in the downrigger cable. A product out in the market place for this purpose is the Depth Raider. This unit offers a probe that you connect to a special downrigger cable giving you speed and temp at the lure to depths of 200 feet. This information is sent to an easy to read display. The key any day on the water is temperature and baitfish. Find those two ingredients and your on fish. The Coho and Rainbows are mostly on #2 Vulcan spoons all of their silver colors are working for us. The big kings are on all styles of rotators with blue or green flies. Large #5 Reaper or magnum spoons in silver or glow are also good for kings. I have been running between 1.8 and 2.4. Enjoy our great resource. Let's go fishing!!
