Day/Night fishing Venice, Louisiana

Postby deepsouthcharters » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:31 am

We fished Friday and an overnighter Saturday. The fishing continues to get a little better every week! If offshore fishing is your thing, then now is your time! We have plenty of open dates, just give us a call!

Friday we ran a trip for Paradise Outfitters. Capt Scott Leger and I had a family reunion out for a day of Venice offshore action. Our first stop was for bait and then on to the tuna grounds. As we pulled up to the rig I could see that Capt Eddie Burger had a nice fish on and figured we would soon be doing battle ourselves. Boy, was I wrong! We fished pretty hard with nothing to show for it, guess it wasnt our day. We decided to make a move and ended up at another rig where Capt Scott Leger was putting a hurting on some yellowfin. This is it, right? WRONG!!! I am thinking that we are cursed by now! The bite died there so we were off to find fish!

Third spot sparked a little action! We boated about a 45 pound AJ and finally had meat in the boat. While trolling the grass we landed a nice wahoo and pulled the hook on an impressive dolphin. Grass broke up so hit the rigs for some snapper and boated a limit in about an hour! For a while, I was worried but ended the day with a nice catch.

Got a little rest Saturday then pushed off for the overnighter. Sea's were a little on the bumpy side so we decied to stop at elf first. Made a few drifts with no luck so we headed for the final stop of the night. The evening bite was dead but soon picked up. Blackfin started to chase flying fish and we had a couple of yellowfin in the boat. We caught blackfin all night on poppers and jigs. Even caught one of the yellows on a jig and spinning rod. Talk about a good fight! As we were fighting one fish a dolphin sufaced. Got the popper down and by that time she hit the other chunk! Always happy to boat a nice dolphin. The guys decided before daylight that they wanted in on Venices great AJ Action, so about 4 am we took off to the honey hole. We boated 4 nice AJ's and made a stop to put a few snapper in the boat. Seth should have enough meat for a while, he left the marina with 2-150 quart and about a 45 quart ice chest full of fillets! Thanks for a fun trip guys!

We have an open boat for you, just give us a call!
