Robert Duffy, Allen Mcelroy, and Steve Clements joined me today "Down Dularge". Upon arriving at our first location we were greeted with the picture perfect scenario. Clear skies, calm winds, falling tide, beautiful sunrise, birds diving by the hundreds and shrimp jumping across the water. First couple cast produced nice 15 inch trout, then it was like the fish disappeared......WHAT????? The birds were still diving and shrimp jumping. We kept working them only to pick up 16 fish....UNBELIEVABLE. We made a few moves around just picking at the trout so we left. Second stop found another couple hundred birds diving all over the water......NO FISH. Thirds stop looked like the charm, but still only picked at them. We never did get on a good solid bite today as the wind picked up within 2 hours after daybreak. We gave up on the trout around 9:30 to search for the bronze backs. It did not take long for Robert to hook up with a big brute. He thought he had a oyster, but the oyster turned into a big bruiser redfish!!!!! Once actually arriving to where we were going to redfish, we found the reds cruising the banks around us. EXTREME low water today (be careful), as we barely made it into the red hole (worse trying to get out!!!.....thank goodness for push pole). No great bite like Thursday, but we did manage to put a few in the box (we also lost just as many as we hooked). Today's trout averaged 13-16 inch's all caught on plastic baits tightlined and under corks. Another good day "Down Dularge" with great company, always a pleasure fishing with Robert and his crew. Thanks guys.
