Redfish Lodge of Louisiana ; Giant Reds & Trout action

Postby Capt. Mike Frenette » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:42 pm

Mike Flynn’s group fished three boats with us and the first hour and a half I was scratching my head. Only a couple of bites, no sign of baitfish, no diving birds, and yes I was concerned. I knew that we were starting out during the slack tide, using that as the excuse, I was hoping things would change when the tide did.

It was like a “light switch” (being turned on of course), as the Reds began to go nuts. Large Reds began to crush the baits, and several Reds in the 25-30 pounds were brought to the boat and released. Double and triple hook-ups were experienced. We worked one area of about two hundred yards long and never had to leave as the Reds were pounding this area pretty hard.

On Capt. Chris’s boat the action was “Hot” as he had the pleasure of entertaining a young angler to the sport of fishing and “Ross”, 9 years old had a BLAST as Capt. Chris put Ross up front with him and Ross brought to the boat 25 Red Fish. Some undersized, some over sized and some “just right” in the slot. This young man is now “hooked” and had an absolute “Blast”.

All three boats caught plenty of fish with several fish released and plenty taken home to eat as well.

As the week progressed and the warmer weather set in action heated up as well. Great catches of large Reds continued and we saw an increase of Speckled Trout action as well. As the waters warm this month the trout action will pick up and during the next three to four full moons we expect to see some monster trout move in.

Giant Reds will continue to please light tackle anglers and in shallow water this creates an awesome fishing experience!!
