New Haven - Saltwater Fishing Report
ReelCrazySportfishing weekend report 7-28-07
I had Tommyv ,Marco and James out on Saturday. They wanted to catch Bass, Porgies and Tog. I wanted to get live bunker for this trip but I tried for 2 nights with nothing to show for it. So i loaded up on eels and brought some frozen bunker that I had from last week. We left the dock about 4 am. I searched the Harbor for a few minutes looking for bunker but there were none there. We made a long run to the Hotspot off Guildford. It took us a few drifts to find where they were holding. Once I did it looked very promising. the Fish finder showed bait and fish all around us. The problem was they didn’t want to eat. We landed 2 bass 1 of them was over 40 inches. we had another bass up to the boat that spit the hook before I could net it. We also had some Bluefish action. we switched over to porgies about 10:30 since the bass were very picky.
with in a few minutes we were into them. they were very nice size fish. the bites came in waves but we didn’t go more than a few minutes without someone landing a fish. Marco was pretty hot and landed a couple of double headers. He also tried for blacks but no luck. I was hoping they were in deeper water since the sound heated up. James landed a beautiful 6-8 pound weakfish on a porgy rig.
