New Haven Harbor, Guilford & Stratford

Capt. Pat Juliano
August 13, 2007
New Haven - Saltwater Fishing Report

It has been pretty slow in the New Haven area the past couple of week. There are reports of bunker showing up here and there but I haven’t been able to confirm them. There have been schools of peanut bunker with Blues in the 3-5 pound range feeding on them in the harbor and around the west haven sandbar.

Stripers have also been slow but we have been able to put a couple keepers in the boat on the morning trips. Blues on the reefs are in the 10 pound range. Drifting whole bunker has been the bait of choice.

Porgies are in good number and there are very good size fish. We have been hitting them in 35-40 feet of water and squid has been working great.

Fluke fishing around the break walls has picked up. To me the bite is still on the slow side and there are a lot of shorts but, The keepers we have caught have been in the 5-6 pound range. The hot color has been green and shiners have produced the most fish.
