New Haven Harbor, Guilford & Stratford

New Haven - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in New Haven is still on the slow side. There is still top water blues almost every evening. I had a trip On Saturday morning. We tried a long shot and went for Blackfish. I have been wanting to give it a shot before the season closes.

We left the dock at 6 am with a ENE wind that was picking up. I wanted to try the deep water wrecks because of the warm water temps. We had wind against the tide so it made it nearly impossible to anchor over the structure. So plan B was to fish the New Haven Break walls. It turned out to be a fair bite and in a couple of hours we boated 4 keepers in the 3-5 pound range and a few throw backs. I have a good feeling that we are going to have a good fall run of blacks with what I experienced on this trip. All fish were caught on asian crabs in 20 feet of water

Sunday trip was for Blues and we caught a lot of them. They are in the 8-12 pound range and they were very think. We fished on a couple of small reefs off of Branford.

On Tuesday We made a long run east to westbrook for some Stripers. All we found were blues so we started to work are way back to New Haven stopping at reefs on the way. At our last stop on a small rock pile off of Branford we found a few Bass that took drifted whole bunker. They ranged from 34- 40 inches.

There was also a lot of blues caught in the 10 pound range.
