Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished on Friday with Westport resident, Marc Pfefferle of Carl Marks & Company--and his colleagues, Vince Belcastro, Larry Forte, and Carl Harig. The day began outside the Norwalk Islands, and seeing very little there, we worked our way along the shore lines and found nice-sized bluefish that provided non-stop action--with the fish ranging from 8 to 12 pounds, all caught on light tackle--mostly on surface plugs.
Saturday's trip was with New Canaanites, Paul Thompson and Neil Boyd--"My Bonnie" regulars--plus Neil's son, A.J., and Paul's son, Dylan--along with J.D.Cregan of Colorado Springs CO and his son, Sam. We started out in Norwalk Harbor, where we plugged up large bluefish 9-11 pounds. We then moved outside the Norwalk Islands and--using tube & worm--we brought in more blues and striped bass up to 27". A multi-family fish barbecue was planned for the evening.
For the past several days we've been seeing thousands of dead bunker in our harbors--a phenomenon that often occurs this time of year.
With the approach of cooler weather, we're looking forward to a lot of topwater action in the next several weeks, and we should be seeing a lot of larger striped bass in our area, as well.
